Great day for a beatdown today as we focused on Suicide Prevention Day. Sure it wasn’t an IronPax, but Dora did some work. As usual, Jay-Z was quick to point that Dora only counts to 3, but I like to think that Dora has moved to 1st grade and can now count to 4(00). YHC Didn’t want to let down the guys after rumor of some leg work- leg blaster with stair suicide brought lots of mumble chatter. Unfortunately only enough time for 2 leg blasters and one stair suicide- was hoping for a full set of 3 each- but what was done was felt in the legs. Even the Indian run to close brought chatter where Popeye let YHC know his true feelings about him. 😳😂 By the way, Happy F3 Birthday to Popeye for his 1 year workout anniversary! Though suicide prevention was the topic, it felt like Mother’s Day today, as lots of chatter about moms, namely Jay-Z’s mother for the majority. I believe this was a carry over from Wednesday- glad we are taking time to “recognize” the special women in our lives. It has brought much laughter and joy to our workout. Below are statistics and info that was shared regarding suicides. Looking forward to another beatdown on Monday! Let’s get the fartsackers out and some Kotters our to have a great start to next week.
Every year, suicide is among the top 20 leading causes of death globally for people of all ages. It is responsible for over 800,000 deaths, which equates to one suicide every 40 seconds.
For every suicide, 25 people make a suicide attempt and many more have serious thoughts of suicide.
Warning signs of suicide include: hopelessness, rage, uncontrolled anger, seeking revenge, acting reckless or engaging in risky activities – seemingly without thinking, feeling trapped like there’s no way out, increased alcohol or drug use, withdrawing from friends, family & society, anxiety, agitation, unable to sleep or sleeping all the time and dramatic mood changes.
5 action items:
1. Learn the warning signs
2. Do your part
3. Practise self-care
4. Reach out
5. Spread the word
